When it comes to wine producing, Italy is the king. The country produces the most wine in the entire world and has over a million vineyards producing wine grapes. However, Italians only rank as fifth when it comes to wine consumption. This means that a lot of Italy's wine is exported across the globe with the United States being one of the biggest.

 

Wine making has been a massive part of Italian culture for thousands of years and was modernized with the Greek colonization around 800 BC. In the middle of the 20th century, the first Italian wine classification system was created. There are 4 major categories of wine classification in Italy. Vini, Vini Varietali, Vini IGP, Vini DOP.
