Winemaker's Notes
Opus One 2023 opens with red fruit, cherry blossom, and dried violet, followed by graceful vanilla and more structured notes of graphite, forest floor, and tobacco. The palate is balanced and framed by silky tannins, with elderberry, cassis, black pepper, and chocolate-covered orange peel.
Red plum and sweet oak carry through the finish, giving the wine both youthful brightness and the structural seriousness associated with Opus One. The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, followed by nineteen months in new French oak.

James Suckling Review - Rated 96:Generous, with savory aromas of ripe blackcurrants and fresh black cherries and a gentle texture that shows a slight nip of tannin. It is well structured and a bit tight, which is normal for a young cabernet sauvignon-based red that’s a proven collectible. Gives up graphite and pencil shavings, some cocoa and espresso. Full-bodied. Spicy, toasty oak is really showing through right now. Best from 2028.
